The Zelda series has always had the same style of music since it started, mostly involving very ethnic styled instruments and sounds. Newer Zelda games incorporate the use of a full orchestra for nearly every song, with other types of instruments used. For instance, in the Wind Waker, there was occasionally a combination of orchestral instruments and electric instruments, such as electric bass. Pan Flutes and Ocarinas are also prominent since the Nintendo 64 games.

The song "Dragon Roost Island" from The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker is a perfect example of Zelda's music style. The entire song is comprised of the same 3 instruments with others adding on later: pan flute, guitar and castanets. This gives a very ethnic type feel, almost like something like you would hear in a native tribe land in the desert. It seems to fit the area of the game well, as this specific area is a remote island in the ocean that harbors a small group of natives. Later on in the song, the bass line kicks in to provide a good mix of traditional and modern styles.
